Barrier Coat System If you have a boat that has not been painted, or if you are having the existing bottom coating stripped from your boat, one of the best ways to protect the investment you've made in your boat is to have us properly apply Sea Hawk Tuff Stuff epoxy barrier coat followed by one of the premium antifouling paints in the Sea Hawk arsenal.

off and you cannot maintain a uniform coating. To properly apply barrier
coat epoxy, a specific process in a specific timeframe needs to be followed in
order to ensure that the proper chemical bond is achieved. The bottom
needs to be de-waxed with solvent, then either scuffed with 80 grit sandpaper or wiped with sandless
primer to give the barrier coat epoxy a surface to adhere to. Because we
use Sea Hawk Tuff Stuff, we can achieve the proper mil thickness of epoxy in two
coats that would require 5 or more coats from other brands. These two
coats need to be laid up, and prior to the second application curing completely,
the first coat of antifouling paint needs to be applied to ensure a chemical
bond. A second coat is suggested as a top coat, and we also suggest that
the initial coat be a different color to use as an indicator for subsequent
reapplication.
If you're buying new, be sure to ask your dealer
how they prepare bottoms before having them apply any sort of coating.
